Oil Bars: Mixing Line
Payne's Gray Oil Bar
Joules & Joules Payne's Gray Oil Bar is a derivation of our Payne's Gray oil paint. In this process, safe quantities of beeswax and carnauba wax are added to the recipe, keeping the outer membrane solid, and the oil bar creamy inside. Joules & Joules Payne's Gray is a dark, deep, opaque, and highly lightfast bluish-black color, with moderate tinting strength and high covering power. It is a historic color mixture created by the watercolorist William Payne (1780-1830) in the late 18th century. It originally consisted of a mixture of Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, and Carmine.
