Oil Bars: Single-Pigment Colors – Synthetic Pigments
Permanent Alizarin Oil Bar
Joules & Joules Permanent Alizarin Oil Bar is a derivation of our Permanent Alizarin oil paint. In this process, safe quantities of beeswax and carnauba wax are added to the recipe, keeping the outer membrane solid, and the oil bar creamy inside. Joules & Joules Permanent Alizarin is an intense, and lightfast bluish-red, with moderate tinting strength and covering power. Alizarin has been produced since Antiquity from a vegetal dye extracted from the Rubia Tinctorium plant (NR9), also known as Madder. In the 19th century, a synthetic Madder Lake (PR 83) was developed by chemists. This latter version was more lightfast than the original one, but it remained an unstable color.
