Handmade Oil Paint: Single-Pigment Colors - Synthetic Pigments
Permanent Alizarin
Joules & Joules Permanent Alizarin is an intense, and lightfast bluish-red, with moderate tinting strength and covering power. Alizarin has been produced since Antiquity from a vegetal dye extracted from the Rubia Tinctorium plant (NR9), also known as Madder. In the 19th century, a synthetic Madder Lake (PR 83) was developed by chemists. This latter version was more lightfast than the original one, but it remained an unstable color.
